TEAM MIDLAND RACING – News

21st September 2010

Coming soon:- Team Midland 2011 desk calendars.

Steph Smart has designed and had printed a wonderful piece that will adorn and improve any desk. Available from 26th September at a price of £5 each, with proceeds to Children in Need. Only 50 of these exist, so they are very much a limited edition and in 20 years time will change hand on Ebay for many thousands of pounds.

Contact the Calendar Girl herself on Stephaniejsmart@hotmail.co.uk to place your order – but be quick as once they’re gone….they’re gone.

Nice one Steph !

26th August 2010

The last two Thursday night races of the season have had to be cancelled due to very poor conditions. There was too much rain, spray and poor visibility to run the events safely.

18th June 2010

Some good news and some bad news. The good news is that we actually got to race a ‘10’ on the proper course – the first time since September 2008 – ie 21 months !

The bad news is that Graham has had to pull the plug on the Help for Heroes 24hr event on 3rd & 4th July. There simply were not enough local riders available to make the event work. Sad, very sad. But we have to be realistic. L

11th June 2010

Apologies – we had to cancel last night’s event. There had been some sort of “incident” on the A45 eastbound during the afternoon. The police had closed off the road and diverted traffic down onto the Stonebridge island. Needless to say, the result was traffic chaos.

Bit of a shame as the dratted cones had only just gone, thus allowing us to actually use the proper course for a change. Ho hummm…….

8th June 2010

The cones have gone from the A452. J

The word from our spies camped out at the new roundabout in front of the Merc garage is that the cones have been taken back to the cone factory for a well-deserved rest. Let’s hope that they stay there and we can actually run some events on the proper course. That would be a novelty.

17th May 2010

This week’s Thursday ‘10’ is the ‘Old School’ road bikes event.

Which means that if the TMR-ers want points then they’ll need to ride an ordinary road bike. J

De Gaffa’s rules are:-

·         No tri-bars

·         No pointy hats

·         No pixie overshoes

·         No aero wheels –ie no discs, no 3- or 4-spoke jobbies, and no rims deeper than 30mm.

The Chief Timekeeper’s decision is final. All appeals must be accompanied by a letter from your mum and a non-refundable 500 Euro note.

2nd May 2010

The Big Gaffer has put together a list of Target Opens for TMR-ers to consider entering. Here we go:- 2010 Target Opens

11th March 2010

Team Midland Racing is proud to support the fourth Midland Women’s Time Trial Series by providing one of the qualifying Series events.  We hope to be overwhelmed by lady riders at Sunday 27th June’s 25 miler on the K26/25C.

This is a milestone for the Women’s Series, established to encourage more women to enter the sport, as the Team Midland event will be its first 25 mile time trial.  A further six 10 mile events - including three Open TTs - make up the Series.

Full details can be found here:-  http:/www.midlanddc.org.uk/index.php?q=taxonomy/term/17

The last three years have showed that when women are offered hassle-free, non-intimidating opportunities to race, they take them! Riders aged 12 to 60 have competed and the Best Improver trophy is hotly contested!  This is perfectly in accord with TMR’s ethos of providing “good natured, but serious competition”.

It would be great to see some of our own female club members enjoying the racing opportunities of the series, especially on 27th June.  Gabriela MacKinnon is a Series stalwart and can be contacted directly if anyone wants more details (Gabriela – at – waitrose.com).

Please spread the word to any potentially interested female cyclists.

Course details are here:- K26-25c details
